As a small Island community our aim is for all young people to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. They will have access to a wide range of post 16 opportunities to develop their skills and qualifications.
The Council of the Isles of Scilly has a key leadership role to champion the interests of all young people in our area.
Work with colleagues in post-16 training and education to ensure that all young people aged 16-19 are in employment, education or training (NEET)
Work with young people to the age of 19 (25 if Learner with Learning Difficulty and Disability)
Work on behalf of the Education Funding Agency (EFA) to administer the discretionary travel and accommodation grant to facilitate post-16 access to education and training on the mainland.
The Council does not directly offer post-16 qualifications and training. This role is undertaken by a wide range of different mainland providers in Cornwall and further afield.
In line with raising the participation age the Council has a duty to encourage all young people to continue with education, employment or training after they are 16. This is the best way to ensure young people move to adulthood and the world of work with the skills and qualifications they need.
